The cake style sets the deadline: count back from the event date before anything else.
Lead time is the gap between order day and event day, and each cake style carries a different one. A custom decorated cake needs 3-7 days; a tiered or wedding cake needs 2-6 weeks; simple cupcakes are same-day if ordered before midday.
Those windows exist because of the work, not the diary. Sponge layers bake at 160-180 °C for 25-40 minutes and must cool before filling; covering a single 10-inch tier takes 450-700 g of fondant; each tier above the base needs 4-6 dowels or one central dowel.
On narrow screens, swipe or scroll the plate sideways.
An order is only complete when it states the event date, the number of servings required — the servings chart converts guest counts into tier sizes — the filling, which decides whether the cake needs 2-8 °C storage, and the tier combination.
The typical failures are predictable: an order placed inside the lead-time window is declined or simplified; a filling chosen without storage in mind spoils in a warm room; a guest count that grows after ordering leaves the cake short.
For weddings and other fixed-date events, place the order at the early end of the 2-6 week window, then use the storage and freezing guide to plan the final 2-3 days before serving.
